Vincenzo Montella is impressed by Verona, but warns Fiorentina “want to prevail” over their ex-hitman Luca Toni.

“We want to consolidate an important fourth place in the table and maybe even improve it,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“It is certainly going to be a great game with Verona, as they play wonderful football, but we want to prevail.”

This is a special encounter for Toni, who left Fiorentina at the end of his contract last summer when they were prepared to offer him only a job behind the scenes.

The 36-year-old striker proved he is still more than capable of playing, as he scored a club record 16 Serie A goals this season.

“Toni found the right club for him. He proved with us that he is still a great professional and I am very happy for Luca. We had evaluated that we wouldn’t have space for him because we had Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez, though of course injuries meant it didn’t turn out that way.

“What can I tell my defenders to help stop Toni? To stand on each other’s shoulders and beat him in the air!” joked Montella.

“Joking apart, I think Luca’s greatest strength is that he can create a goal out of nowhere. He has that winning touch.”

Romulo is on loan at Verona from Fiorentina and this week received his debut Italy call-up for pre-World Cup fitness tests.

“Romulo did very well with me last season, but we sent him to Verona because we thought he could grow here. I think there are many players better and many who are worse.”
