On Thursday evening the Viola released a terse statement from President Andrea Della Valle, warning “we cannot wait around any longer.”

Montella was contacted by news agency ANSA and confessed: “I am surprised by the club statement, but I am the Coach of Fiorentina and am prepared to continue with enthusiasm.”
Director general Andrea Rogg also spoke to Firenzeviola.it about the situation.
“It’s nothing dramatic, we just want a sense of unity as soon as possible so we can start planning the season.
“We want to work with Montella in future, but now it is decision time. So far the club has not contacted any potential replacements, but we do have a list of names. We had to do that in the situation.
“We have everything needed to be optimistic about Montella, but have to wait a few more days.
“Planning is essential and therefore Montella will have to make a decision by the end of the week.”
