Vincenzo Montella was presented to the media and declared Sevilla is “the ideal club for me to express my ideas of football.”

He was fired by Milan on November 27, but already has a new job in La Liga, replacing Eduardo Berizzo.

“Thank you to Sevilla for giving me this opportunity,” said Montella in his Press conference.

“In the short-term, my objective is to win and this is the ideal club for me to express my ideas of football. It’s a great chance for me. I am enchanted by the stadium, the club and the spirit of Sevilla, which I witnessed when Fiorentina came here in the Europa League.

“I watched a few of their games this season, mostly in the Champions League, but didn’t have the opportunity to see the last outings. What I above all want to see is spirit and passion from the team.

“My ideal of football is concentrated on playing with team spirit and passion for the sport. If we play good football, then it becomes easier to win games.”

Midfielder Steven N’Zonzi was on the verge of a move to the Premier League following a row with Berizzo, but with Montella’s arrival, the situation could well change.

“N’Zonzi is a very strong player. One of my objectives is to speak to him, understand what his ideas are. As far as I am concerned, he is an important player.

“So far, we haven’t discussed transfer strategy with the club. We spoke about my ideas for the team that we already have. We are a family and as such make decisions together. There is immense potential in this squad.”

Montella has been joined by assistant manager Enzo Maresca, who is not only Italian, but also spent much of his playing career with Sevilla.

“Enzo is part of the history of this club and has a great deal of respect in Italy too. He is giving me so much with regards to rapport with the club and fans. I promise that I will learn Spanish very quickly.”
