Vincenzo Montella will let Franck Ribery “explain” his own comments in the aftermath of the post-match incident when Fiorentina lost to Lazio last weekend.
The French winger has been banned for three Serie A games as he was caught pushing the assistant referee after the 2-1 loss at the Artemio Franchi. Montella doesn’t want to dwell on the situation and waves away the questions regarding the player's letter of apology.
“He comes from a squad that is highly competitive at a world level," the Coach said at a press conference. “He might be a bit less experienced with this. I will let him explain himself. We have decided not to appeal the ban."
Montella is preparing to face Sassuolo in Serie A on Wednesday and the coach admits that he might be forced to adjust due to fatigue to key members of the squad, having used the same XI for seven games in a row.
“[Federico] Chiesa is exhausted towards the end of the games, but he is a top lad. He recuperates quickly and would still be able to play three games in a week,” the 45-year-old explained before stating there would be some changes this week.
“Maybe I’ll change something in the middle of the park, but I won’t say more than that.”
Some decisions will be foisted upon him, because Martin Caceres and Pol Lirola are dealing with injury, while Ribery and Luca Ranieri are suspended.
