“A group of 30 players with a lot of diversity, cultures, languages and religions – it is not easy to lead,” he told Guerin Sportiva.
“You have to try and prove your credibility. I’m the sort that doesn’t think screaming at the lads is useful – in my opinion you have to assert your authority every day in training.
“The relationship with every player is different. Everyone has their own story.
“We may have taken some risks, but the city of Florence demands that of you. Here you live in the middle of everything, with beautiful monuments around every corner – as a Coach it’s almost an invitation to dare you to do things differently.
“Giuseppe Rossi has impressed – he is a great professional who lives for football. I’m delighted for him that he’s back fit and scoring.
“Borja Valero is also an extraordinary player – he has brought some Spanish flair to Italy. Cuadrado on the wings is one of the world’s strongest and has made tremendous progress.
“And Mario Gomez. He is a great coup for the club. He is what we needed.”
