Coach Vincenzo Montella says Sampdoria must “discard the excuses about time” when they face Milan tomorrow.

The former striker has replaced Walter Zenga on the Blucerchiati bench, but isn’t going to use the excuse of not having time to work with the squad.

“This is the first week where we’ve worked with everyone available,” Montella said in his pre-match Press conference.

“It’s always said that it takes time, but I don’t want to wait. We have to discard the excuses about time and just think about how to beat Milan tomorrow.

“The lack of points away from home is something that must be deleted. It takes courage and personality to play in these games.

“Beyond mental of physical work we have to work on everything, and we are working. It’s not easy, but I’m in a hurry and the players must be like me.”

Montella’s first game in charge of Samp ended in a 1-0 defeat to Udinese, but the Coach saw some positives.

“After the Udinese game we analysed it and saw which things we’d done quite well, and what we could do better.

"We had a lot of possession, but it was sterile, we have to play a bit more vertically. We need more depth and better positioning.

“After the goal, maybe the team subconsciously thought the game was already lost.”
