The Viola play Torino on Sunday and Montella says the win over Cittadella in the fourth round of the Coppa Italia was a morale booster for his side.

“Victories help. It came at a crucial time. The lads responded, especially those who didn’t play so well against Lecce," said the coach in a press conference.

“Now we have another game, against an opponent who is built for contesting European places. They’re another level to Cittadella."

Montella won't lie when asked about the absence of Torino hitman Belotti, who has a muscular injury.

“We are missing some players that are maybe more important than Belotti for Torino, but I’m glad he isn’t there! [Federico] Chiesa has trained with us. He is physically and mentally recovered because he wants to be there with us.”

Franck Ribery could be out of action until the New Year, so what formation will Montella utilise without the Frenchman?

“I don’t want to give Mazzarri any advantages because he works hard on analyzing the opponent. We have players who can play in a 4-3-3 or a 3-5-2.”

Torino finished seventh last season, eight places above Fiorentina, but the situation seems to have changed.

“They’re a very physical and competitive team. [President Urbano] Cairo has been investing for Europe for three years. Belotti’s reserve for example is [Simone] Zaza. The league says that the gap has narrowed, but I’m not so sure. It will be a very difficult game.”
