Vincenzo Montella is starting to fear Fiorentina “are cursed” after Mario Gomez was ruled out for three weeks.

With Giuseppe Rossi already out for at least four to five months, now Gomez is sidelined with a thigh strain.

“It was a surprise for me, as I saw him before yesterday’s training session and he seemed fine,” explained the Coach in his Press conference.

“We are disappointed, our forwards really look like they are cursed. With a clear head, we can say these things happen. Fortunately it’s nothing serious for Gomez and we hope to have him back soon.”

It looks as if Fiorentina will have to start 21-year-old Khouma Babacar and 20-year-old Federico Bernardeschi against Sassuolo tomorrow.

“These are two players I believe in a great deal and in fact they stayed when we could’ve signed other strikers. They are young and we need patience without putting pressure on them. We mustn’t expect everything from them straight away.

“At times people expect too much from Cuadrado too, myself included, but it is my job to get the best out of every player’s potential. In this sense, Cuadrado still has a way to go and he’s fortunate, as it means he can get much better.”

The Viola got their first Serie A win of the season on Sunday, conquering Atalanta 1-0 in Bergamo.

“I really respect Di Francesco as a person and as a Coach, as he gets his results via good football. Sassuolo can hurt opponents both home and away.

“In these two years the fans in Florence, who pay good money for tickets and have the right to say what they want, have shown great affection towards this team and believe in what we are doing.

“I would always like to see from my players the same desire to win as in Bergamo on Sunday. When the team puts that hunger on to the field, I don’t think the fans can complain.”
