Garry Monk was proud that Swansea City gave Napoli a huge scare in the Europa League. “We pushed them all the way.”

The first leg ended 0-0, while the Partenopei had to leave it late in order to win 3-1 at the San Paolo.

“I couldn't ask for any more from them. After 180 minutes against a side as good as this, to push them all the way in every minute until the very last one and to have enough chances to win five games let alone one, says everything about how good we are,” said the Coach.

“I am gutted for them because they deserved more for the application and effort they put in when most teams who come here would sit back.

“But I don't want them to be downbeat because they shouldn't be; they can hold their heads high and be proud. And I told them in the dressing room, whatever happens in their career, make sure they play with that belief that you can always win a game and have the ability to affect it no matter who you are playing.

“No-one gave us a chance before these games. They thought Napoli would wipe the floor with us, but we showed what a good team we are. They can take the belief from this that they can compete with a side like Napoli. They should hold no fear after this.”
