Monchi says he is working on a new contract for Alessandro Florenzi and that Roma must pass their “acid test” against Chievo on Sunday.

Florenzi has recovered from two ACL injuries to make 16 appearances for Roma this season, while the Giallorossi recently qualified for Champions League last 16, having topped a group that contained Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.

“I’ll talk about the Champions League after the trip to Verona,” the sporting director said at a book launch.

“I’ll talk about the Champions League after the trip to Verona,” the sporting director said at a book launch.

“If we beat Chievo, I’d be even happier than with the victory over Qarabag. It’ll be an important step for the growth of our club.

“What we did in the Champions group stage was beautiful, but we can’t stop there. We must keep giving the fans what they want.

“I think Roma fans are happy for us reaching the knockout stages, but I believe they’re waiting for something else…

“We have to win on Sunday. For me, it may be the most important moment of the season, our acid test after achieving an objective.

“Totti? I’m lucky to work with him, the renewals haven’t been difficult because everyone’s wanted to stay at Roma.

“Starting with De Rossi, then Strootman, then Nainggolan, Fazio, Manolas and Perotti: everyone wanted to stay.

“This makes things much simpler for a director, and it’s also thanks to the club.

“Florenzi’s? I don’t know how long it’ll take, but it’s definitely my objective. Florenzi and Roma must stick together for many more years.

“Di Francesco? We’re very happy with him. We made an important choice in Eusebio and we couldn’t have any more faith in him.

“The most important thing is the relationship we have with him. Squad? I belong to Roma, but it’s not my club.

“Roma already had great players before I arrived, so I’m lucky to have joined a team that had one of the best sporting directors around [Sabatini] before me.
