The pair meet at Camp Nou on Wednesday for the first leg of their tie, with the Catalan side heavily favoured to go through.

“Obviously, it’s difficult,” Monchi admitted, speaking to Marca.

“That's the word which comes to mind. Barcelona have a high chance of going through but it isn't impossible at all.

“You have to acknowledged their history and quality, and the fact they have a player like Lionel Messi but we'll try to take advantage of this opportunity.

“There is a very big dream that exists just now at Roma and sometimes that helps you move mountains and achieve impossible things.

“I still think that we haven't had luck with the draw and that it’s difficult, but nobody should write Roma off.”

The reaction in Spain to Barça drawing the Giallorossi was rather enthusiastic…

“I imagine that it wasn't as great as has been made out by the media. Roma aren't a team who many people believe in but we are a good side with many internationals.

“I'm convinced that Barcelona's dressing room aren't overconfident and respect Roma as much as possible and know that at this level, nothing is easy.

“We are a compact team with few spaces between the lines. We play with a high pressure and are physically strong. That would be the summary without giving away any clues.”
