The Uruguayan midfielder is seen as on his way out of San Siro after just the single season, with Tottenham listed in recent months as one interested party.

However, reports today suggest that a move to Ligue 1 cash rich side Monaco may be on the cards.

It is speculated by the Corriere dello Sport that his agents have already held initial talks with representatives from the Principality.

At the same time, whilst the Nerazzurri are seen as open to the player’s departure, incoming Coach Walter Mazzarri is thought to have the final say.

It was understood that during his time at Napoli, Mazzarri was interested in signing the player, so he may be inclined to keep hold of him for 2013-14.
