It has been announced by the FIGC that goalkeeper Antonio Mirante will remain with the Italy squad as they head to Brazil.

The Parma shot-stopper has been with Cesare Prandelli’s Azzurri throughout their World Cup preparations at Coverciano.

Though he was not named in Prandelli’s final 23-man selection for the tournament, it has now been confirmed that he will continue training with the team until the eve of their first World Cup Group D match, against England – the latest possible time squad members can be changed.

As such, Mirante will continue to deputise in case one of Gigi Buffon, Salvatore Sirigu and Mattia Perin suffers injury and has to withdraw.

Yesterday, Italy’s team doctor Enrico Castellacci moved to allay fears that Paris Saint Germain’s Sirigu had suffered broken ribs.
