The centre-forward netted what proved to be the crucial strike in the 2-1 win against Lille last night after a difficult spell in front of goal.

The centre-forward netted what proved to be the crucial strike in the 2-1 win against Lille last night after a difficult spell in front of goal.

"It went well for us tonight," the captain told Inter Channel. "I'm especially happy for Diego – he needed that goal.

"He's like a brother to me and setting up his goal was like scoring myself.

"Strikers get periods like this. Periods when you do everything right and others when you can't do anything properly.

"Diego is working so hard for the team, though, he makes sacrifices and he deserved this goal."

The South American also praised the Nerazzurri crowd for their continual support of the former Genoa hitman.

"I want to thank the fans for getting behind him because they are always with us," he continued.

"Today's was an important win to respond to the Juventus” data-scaytid=”8″>Juventus defeat. It allows us to work with a little bit less pressure."
