The Brazilian Government has called in the military to help ensure safety in tonight’s game with Italy as protests continue to spread.

The Confederations Cup is overshadowed by huge protests around the country that have so far seen two deaths and dozens of injuries.

According to Brazilian website UOL, the security presence around this evening’s match in Salvador de Bahia will be extraordinary.

According to Brazilian website UOL, the security presence around this evening’s match in Salvador de Bahia will be extraordinary.

The military is being called in to help calm the situation around the stadium as well as a massive police presence.

Last night Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff tried to calm the protests via a televised address, assuring the money for the Confederations Cup and World Cup did not come from taxpayers.

She said there would be new plans for public transport, the health care system and pumping oil royalties into education.

The match kicks off at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).
