New Lazio signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic insists the club didn't overpay for him and is enthusiastic about the ‘great opportunity’ he has in Rome.

The Serbian Under-20 World Cup winner joined the Aquile from Genk for a reported €9m this summer, but is believed to have said that the club paid ‘too much’ for him.

However, in an interview with Serbian media on his return from the Supercoppa in China the midfielder denied that he had made the comment.

“Those words never came out of my mouth. I would be a fool if I said such a thing,” he said.

“If Lazio have invested that amount of money, it’s because it represents my value.

"Moving to Lazio was a great opportunity. The more time passes, the more I realise how important this transfer is.

“I will remember this year my whole life, it all happened so fast – first I became a world champion and then I moved to a big club.”
