Milan have temporarily suspended activity on social media in a show of support to goalkeeper Mike Maignan following the racist abuse in the win over Udinese.

The 28-year-old Frenchman and his Rossoneri teammates briefly left the pitch in the first half of the clash in Udine on Saturday night. It quickly became clear that the goalkeeper had been suffering racist abuse from some Udinese fans behind the goal and play was briefly suspended.

The match eventually resumed, and Milan walked away 3-2 winners after a late winner from Noah Okafor. The incident was widely shared on social media and many from across the footballing world came out in support of Maignan.

Milan decided to take a stand to support their number one, falling silent on social media today to stand by Maignan and the fight against racism in football.

The 28-year-old penned a long letter in response to the incident, calling on the ‘entire system to take responsibility’.
