Milan derby the turning point of Calhanoglu’s campaign

Despite a slow start to the season, Inter star Hakan Calhanoglu has contributed to eight Inter goals in the last six games, stepping up his form since the Milan derby.

The Turkey star joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer from Milan over the summer.

Talks over a contract extension with Milan had stalled for several months before Inter rushed to sign him in June after Christian Eriksen’s incident during the Euros.

Calhanoglu’s start to the season was quite tricky as he scored once and assisted twice in nine games, starting two Serie A games on the bench.

However, the Milan derby played at the beginning of November was a sort of turning point in his campaign.

The Turkey international stepped up for a penalty kick in the first half, scoring and celebrating in a controversial way, staring at Milan’s ultras.

Since that goal, Calhanolgu’s season has changed.

The 27-year-old scored and assisted in Inter’s 4-0 win over Cagliari last night and has contributed to eight goals in the last six matches.
