Despite a slow start to the season, Inter star Hakan Calhanoglu has contributed to eight Inter goals in the last six games, stepping up his form since the Milan derby.

The Turkey star joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer from Milan over the summer.

Talks over a contract extension with Milan had stalled for several months before Inter rushed to sign him in June after Christian Eriksen’s incident during the Euros.

Calhanoglu’s start to the season was quite tricky as he scored once and assisted twice in nine games, starting two Serie A games on the bench.

However, the Milan derby played at the beginning of November was a sort of turning point in his campaign.

The Turkey international stepped up for a penalty kick in the first half, scoring and celebrating in a controversial way, staring at Milan’s ultras.

Since that goal, Calhanolgu’s season has changed.

The 27-year-old scored and assisted in Inter’s 4-0 win over Cagliari last night and has contributed to eight goals in the last six matches.

He scored and assisted against Roma and Napoli and found the net against Venezia.

Calhanoglu sent a message to his former club after last night’s match: “I am very happy to be here,” he told DAZN.

“It makes me proud. I want to thank the team, as they really help me to become an important player, they sense my quality and contribution, so I give my best for the club.”

  1. Ahhhh yes. Hakan has a string of a few good games and everyone gets on the hype train.
Then spends a couple months trying to figure it out.
    Then has a decent game.
Then goes back to being a ghost.

This is all too familiar.Inter fans should be prepared for the drop off.

  2. Inter fans are pretty aware of it. However, even if he can fill the void that Eriksen has left in just a few games it’s will do good for us as our financial situation didn’t allow us the spend on another player, performs in the most of the game that will be even better! In another thought, maybe Inzaghi knows how to get better of him or maybe players around him suits him better.
The think is that you never wanted him, and just keep talking bad of him, so I’m not sure where all this saltiness comes from? If he was bad as most Milan fans claiming then you should be happy with offloading him!

  3. OK, Milan fans, you told us, he is inconsistent. And he is. But, after 17 weeks he scored 6 goals (OK some penalties but still) and 5 assists. That’s good statistic. Even if he doesn’t score any goal nor assist still he will have good contribution at the end of the season. I expect him to make 10 goals and 8 assists. We have 21 more weeks to go.

  4. Perhaps the significant difference is that when Hakan in bad form, we still have Vidal or Sensi to take his place and give him time on bench. In Milan, you cant rely on saelemakers, krunic or other fodder. That was why he kept playing in Milan even when he was in bad form.

Of course being surrounded by quality players like broz and barella should also be factor in.

Eventually, considering he is free, his contributions are significant

  5. Rather than cursing out the guy for leaving, Milan fans should be questioning why as of late so many good players are able to run down their contracts and leaving for free – Calhanoglu, Donnarumma and now Kessie is on the verge of doing the same. It’s not like Calhanoglu is earning significantly more than what Milan were offering him so saying it was only financially motivated is clutching at straws. Leaving contract negotiations until the final year of players’ contracts, while it saves money in the short term, is a dangerous game.
