Mihajlovic has been out of work since being fired by Fiorentina last November, after 17 difficult months in charge of La Viola. Before that, the former Inter assistant Coach had had spells on the bench at Catania and Bologna.

Having recently ruled himself out of a possible return to the Stadio Artemio Franchi, the 43-year-old looks set to land his next role, as head Coach of the Serbian national team.

“We have every intention of keeping our promise to appoint a new Coach by the end of April and the federation believes that Mihajlovic is the right man for the job,” Serbian FA President Tomislav Karadzic revealed to the media on Thursday.

“We have already met four times with Mihajlovic last month to discuss his terms and only some minor details remain to be defined, relating to financial matters and the names of assistants.

“All those we have consulted have approved this appointment.”

Serbia have been on the search for a permanent replacement to Vladimir Petrovic since he resigned in light of the country finishing behind Italy and Estonia in European Championship 2012 qualifying Group C.
