“On July 11, a year ago today, [Walter] Sabatini, Dr. Nanni and [Marco] Di Vaio came to me in my hotel room to tell me that I’d contracted leukaemia,” Mihajlovic said at a press conference.

“I had bone marrow tests that morning and received confirmation of the disease.

“It’s certainly an important day for me, a year has passed but it’s something that I’ll hardly forget.

“No-one could’ve imagined that I’d be here today talking about football and the match against Parma.”

The coach was then asked whether the Rossoblu’s hopes of Europa League qualification had faded.

“I don't know if they’re a team who sit back, but it’ll also depend on us. It’ll be an open game.

“We’ll do what we have to do, we’re professionals but I don't want to cry or hear certain questions.

“You [journalists] have 10 days to prepare your questions and then you come here with these questions…

“Out of 10 questions, nine are always the same. You should be a bit more imaginative, so my answers will be just as obvious.”

Having fumed with Francesco Fourneau’s handling of the 2-1 defeat to Sassuolo, the referee today is Maurizio Mariani – another Roman…

“I don’t have a good relationship with Roman referees. Hopefully this year will end as soon as possible because playing without fans is rubbish.”
