“Empoli got shouted at by their Coach this week after a defeat and want to end the season on a high,” noted Miha in his Press conference.

“However, they are playing for pride, while we are playing for Europe and our motivation has to get the upper hand.”

The Blucerchiati had been fighting for a top three finish, but a recent slide saw them fall down to seventh place.

“I want to point out three things. The first is that people must never forget all that has been done so far this season and I feel Sampdoria deserve applause. Nobody would’ve expected us to be challenging for Europe in the penultimate round.

“The second is self-recognition. Over the last month we’ve wasted three match points against Cesena, Verona and Lazio. We just had to win one of those and we were in Europe, but I am the Coach and take the blame.

“We have a problem scoring goals, but I have the solution and just hope it doesn’t happen again.

“The third is a statement. I have never talked about referees and don’t want to do so now, as if we hadn’t missed such big chances then certain refereeing errors wouldn’t have made the difference.

“The fixture list is very tough, but perhaps it’s better this way, as the season will be intense right to the end.

“There are two rounds to go, six points at our disposal. They are the difference between qualifying for the Europa League or watching it on TV.”
