The diminutive striker is coming to the end of his fifth season with the Rosanero, which from 28 appearances he has netted 16 times and assisted 13 more to almost single-handedly help the club avoid a relegation battle in another unsettling season.

Speaking after the club’s last home game of the season, a 4-4 draw with Chievo in which he netted his second hat-trick of the season, the 32-year-old admitted that he could be leaving in the summer. President Maurizio Zamparini has suggested that he has offers from Dubai.

“At the end of the championship I will assess the best solution with the President,” confirmed the captain.

“Now I really do not know what to say. I went under the Curva to greet my fans [yesterday] and it was as exciting as ever.

“For five years I have been here and there has always been mutual respect. Every time I go on to the field there is an emotion, the affection I feel for the people of Palermo is exaggerated.

“I have another year on my contract, whatever may be my choice it will be based on my family. In June I will be 33 and I want to do two more years at this level. It will not be an economical decision because in the past I have refused offers. I just want to play out the last two to three years of my career in peace.

“Will I finish my career with Lecce? I don’t think this wish will come true, but, I will always be a fan of Lecce, beyond.

“Zamparini says that I have offers from abroad? I don’t know. I have not spoken to anyone because I do not speak English, but he has many Arab friends. If he says so…”
