Palermo’s Fabrizio Miccoli is devastated that he won’t be able to face Genoa on Sunday – in order to ‘aid’ Lecce’s survival bid.

“I’m really disappointed that I can’t play,” stated the forward who picked up a suspected muscle strain in training on Friday.

“I really wanted to make this game, but I’ve been particularly unlucky. I wanted to end the season in the best way possible, perhaps with a decisive goal.

“I’m sure that my teammates will give their best so that we can conclude the championship in a positive manner.”

Miccoli had told the Gazzetta dello Sport this morning that he wanted to defeat the Grifone to give hometown club Lecce a chance of surviving the drop.

Lecce need a win and a Genoa loss to stay in the top-flight on Sunday.

“It won’t be easy for Lecce at Chievo Verona,” he told the newspaper. “Chievo are a tough side and compact.

“However, at stages like this, what counts is motivation and Lecce will have more to play for.

“For the same reason, Genoa will be more pumped up than us, but I can guarantee that I will give my all in the hope that it is sufficient,” he stated before injury.
