Three games have been called off due to the snow and ice sweeping across the north of the country. With Siena’s home match against Catania one of those affected, Mezzaroma took the opportunity to pinpoint where he believes the failing lies.
“The postponements? Most of the problems do not apply to the turf, because you can resolve those with tarpaulin,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli. “It is with the stands.”
“The discussion surrounds infrastructure. In Siena, the game was postponed as public policy, for the safety of the spectators.
“The real problems are the stands. If we had played then the field would have been ok, but at nine degrees below zero, the stands would have been frozen, and this would have been a danger to everyone.
“In a world where there are little chairs with heating systems, we as Presidents are fed up. We must encourage the construction of new facilities as a motion to restore the national economy.
“In addition, there is the question of the calendar – the case might be to break the taboo of the winter break. At that time, working with intelligence with regards scheduling the games, many fields will be safe to play on.”
