Philippe Mexes claims Roma's triumph over Bayern Munich finally turned a corner. “With a squad like this, we could go far.”

The Giallorossi were trailing 2-0 at half-time, but fought back for the 3-2 victory thanks to Marco Borriello, Daniele De Rossi and a Francesco Totti penalty.

“We did so badly in the first half,” said the French defender. “We were on home turf and needed at least a point, so we had nothing to lose.

“We should've pressured them higher up the field. It was very difficult after the 2-0, but we immediately got back into it after the restart with Borriello finishing off a great Jeremy Menez move.”

The turnaround was particularly impressive considering Totti, David Pizarro, Fabio Simplicio and Adriano were on the bench to begin with.

“Did you see our bench? With Francesco, Pizarro and the Brazilians there was so much talent there and with a squad like this, we could go far. Every player gives his all for the team.

“Nobody thought Leandro Greco or Simplicio could do so well, but we have real strength in depth.”

Roma had a disastrous start to their Serie A season too, but have found their feet to get back into the Scudetto race.

“At the moment things are going well for us and we have to continue riding that wave,” added Mexes.

“We are proving that we have character and enthusiasm, while Rome is a wonderful atmosphere even with – often precisely because of – the pressure.”
