Dries Mertens admits “now it’s up to us” for Napoli to beat Nice and reach the Champions League after their friendly win over Espanyol.

The Belgian and Raul Albiol were on target in this evening’s 2-0 victory, the final test ahead of Wednesday’s first leg play-off.

“We worked hard and did everything to be ready at this stage and now it’s up to us,” Mertens told Mediaset Premium.

“Nice have the advantage of already starting competitive games this season, while we play the first leg at home and are hungry for success.”

Napoli fans have reason to be anxious, as they lost the last Champions League play-off to Athletic Bilbao.

“It’s true we were a little lucky last time, but we’ve got players who have been here for a few years now and I think that is an advantage.

“I think 2-0 against Espanyol is not bad, we kept a clean sheet and could’ve scored more than two goals tonight.”
