“Mertens is ready to face Fiorentina after his commitments with Belgium,” Soren Lerby told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“He’s already concentrated on doing as well as possible for his club. Physically he’s fine. Napoli are enjoying a great spell, and it will be an interesting season for them.
“The Scudetto? Why not? Mertens always aims for the maximum.
“As for the renewal of his contract, it’s not a problem, we’ll see what happens in the coming weeks. Dries is only thinking about the pitch right now.
“However, we’re waiting for a call from Napoli to discuss the renewal of his contract.”
Belgium went top of the FIFA World Rankings this week for the first time in their history, and Lerby believes Mertens and his compatriots enter Euro 2016 with a chance of winning.
“He’s first in the FIFA rankings with the rest of his national team. It’s a historic achievement, but also a direct result of the development of Belgian football.
“The Belgian national team are a really top side, with great players available to the CT [Marc Wilmots].
“Dries, since he always aims for the maximum, wants to win the next European Championships.
“If they don’t manage it, they’ll definitely have fought to do it.”
