The Chile international joined the Nerazzurri earlier this month from Welsh club Cardiff City.
And the versatile midfielder has insisted that he has joined one of the biggest teams in Europe.
“I am very happy to be at Inter. I spoke to [countryman Mauricio] Pinilla who told me Inter are a big club,” he told reporters.
“I'd like to thank everyone that brought me here – my team-mates have given me a warm welcome.
“There were other teams in for me but I always wanted a move to Inter and I'm here at last. I'm ready to play.
“I asked my agent not to talk to me about interest during the World Cup, I only heard about it afterwards.”
The 27-year-old then commented on comparisons with Gennaro Gattuso and his admiration for Javier Zanetti.
“My preferred position is central midfield but if I start I'm happy to play anywhere. Likened to Gattuso? I'm Gary Medel and I want to show what I can do, perform well and win here at Inter.
“Javier Zanetti is an icon both here and in South America.”
