Walter Mazzarri has reflected on his motivation, and his intention to create an Inter side that ‘fights and never gives up’.

On from beginning preseason with the Nerazzurri this week in Pinzolo, the Coach has faced the media for the first time, and reflected on his mindset having just agreed a contract extension.

“I will tell you how I am feeling. I would like to say that this is a second youth, like the first day I started coaching,” Mazzarri has enthused today.

“I’m charged, eager, because with the club there has been much clarity and mutual respect, and this has given me more strength. The fans welcomed us and this is a further charge. I have seen the guys motivated, there are grounds to do well.

“On a personal level the positive reception from fans was pleasing? Yes of course. I have always respected the opinion of all, the fans are always right.

“There have never been any problems, but if the feedback given is like this then it is an extra stimulus and makes you feel at ease.”

Mazzarri was asked what the objectives are heading into next season.

“I am never satisfied. I want to see players at their best, facing games in a combative mood. My teams always have a soul and this year I want to see more. After a year I feel more sure of what I propose.

“I have to have the confidence of the parties, I had that feeling and I decided to extend the contract. I too have agreed on the project that starts now and I think I am the right person to take it forward, starting with a good foundation. There are guidelines dictated by the club, such as the possibilities in the transfer market.”

Mazzarri was asked about the gap in quality between his side and those at the top of Serie A.

“Technical values are not enough, the organisation can make up for the difference. If we do things better than others, if we push together for a result, we can do better than those who are considered above our technical values.

“Football is in this direction, think about teams like Chile and Costa Rica, who at the World Cup have made it difficult for teams with superior technical values.

“My Inter? Meeting with fans and shareholders, they have asked me this year to see a team that fights and never gives up.

“That’s the first point, I will work a lot on this aspect, beyond the quality. Then, we can only get better.”
