Second-placed Crotone trailed league leaders Benevento by 20 points before the forced break but the season has been ‘positive’ according to the former Torino man, who recently returned to Italy after a stint in Brazil.

The 36-year-old, who because of injuries has been limited to eight matches in Serie B this term, was happy to be back on the training pitch and hopes to avoid further setbacks.

The 36-year-old, who because of injuries has been limited to eight matches in Serie B this term, was happy to be back on the training pitch and hopes to avoid further setbacks.

“My mood is good, I miss everyday life, to train with my friends and play on a Sunday,” Maxi Lopez told the club’s official website. “Right now, I think it’s better to do this: one step at a time to return to normal as soon as possible and return to play football like before.

“I had a good feeling when I returned to the sports centre. A sense of liberation, because after so many weeks at home, everything is obviously different. To start running again, feeling the scent of grass and making the first moves was very nice.”

Crotone sit only two points above Frosinone at third in Serie B and Maxi Lopez dreams of helping the side back to the top tier.

“This experience at Crotone was my first in the second tier. Thanks to my teammates and fans, who made me feel at home immediately, both on and off the pitch, it proved to be a beautiful choice.

“Now, the goal is to bring Cotrone back to Serie A. Personally it was a difficult year because I suffered an injury that made me sit out for more than three months.

“I have been out for a while, but I have not lost the desire and the anger to demonstrate what I can contribute.

“I will always make myself available to my teammates to help us accomplish our goal. The season has been very positive so far, between ups and downs. I’m convinced that if we continue like this, with this step and with this humility, we can achieve big things.”
