Although they have not been found guilty of anything yet, the prosecutor has requested a ban of four years and six months for Mauri and a six-point penalty for Lazio.
The captain is accused of sporting fraud for fixing a match on May 14 2011 along with Genoa midfielder Omar Milanetto.
However, according to the Corriere dello Sport, the judges are leaning against this verdict and would only condemn them for violating Article 1 – the code regarding principles of fair play.
If that were the case, Mauri’s ban would be at most 18 months and Lazio receive only a fine rather than be docked points.
Meanwhile, Milanetto’s lawyer stated any sporting fraud conviction for his client would be “science fiction. He is calm, combative and determined to prove his innocence in the trial.”
