The Bianconeri triggered an option in the 32-year-old’s previous deal and he has revealed that he was “never in doubt” about his future with the Old Lady.

“I’m very happy to continue for another season here,” he told Le Figaro. “I feel the trust from everyone, and I was never in doubt.

“As far as my season is concerned, I’ve had ups and downs, I have to be better on the ball.

“At Juve you eat, sleep and wake up thinking about winning. I’m getting old and I also thought about my family, who loves Turin.

“People are very welcoming, we go for walks in the park with the family, the children go skiing in the mountains. There’s a lot of passion for football and an excellent quality of life.

Matuidi said Cristiano Ronaldo has opened his eyes and leads the team by an “excellent example”.

“You see him playing and you understand that in order to achieve excellence, you have to give your best. He is an excellent example.”

Juventus are currently preparing to face Olympique Lyonnais in the round of 16 in the Champions League and Matuidi has insisted that the Old Lady must “respect” their opponents on Wednesday.

“Juventus aren’t afraid of anyone, they play to win all the matches,” he added. “But they must be respected, we need to be concentrated.”

Matuidi is looking forward to representing France in Euro 2020 this summer and revealed that he has not thought about retiring from international football.

“France arrive with great ambition. It will be a magical experience. I hope to be at my best,” he said. “I live in the present and I will have time to evaluate.”
