Inter lost the Scudetto on the last day of the season with a 4-2 defeat at the Olimpico after throwing away a healthy lead and finished third behind Juventus and Roma.
The Nerazzurri have dominated Serie A since the Calciopoli scandal of 2006 and are targeting the title again after the 3-0 win over Bari propelled them to third place.
“I think Napoli, apart from the slip-up at Chievo on Wednesday, and Roma are in the running, so we must watch out for them. Milan have the ball in their court at the moment and are currently the team to beat.”
On Sunday night there will be a head-to-head between Inter and Roma at San Siro.
“We know that the top teams are pushing hard, but we are strong and have lost time in the past. Now it's up to us to make up that gap as quickly as possible,” continued Materazzi.
“Roma are a truly great squad. In recent years we faced them many times, winning some and losing some, so we know they are to be approached very carefully.”
Francesco Totti is expected to miss out after coming down with flu symptoms, while Cristian Chivu starts a four-match ban for punching Bari defender Marco Rossi.
“Chivu expected a big suspension and he understood the mistake he made, apologised publicly and was ashamed of his actions. He must be given credit for the courage and humility it took to do that.”
