Inter director Beppe Marotta feels the squad and Simone Inzaghi have learned so much in recent years and are ready to put it all into practice this season, starting with the derby against Milan.

It kicks off at a packed out San Siro at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from this game, Juventus-Lazio and Genoa-Napoli on the LIVEBLOG.

This is not just the Derby della Madonnina, but also a top of the table showdown between the two only remaining teams with a 100 per cent record in Serie A this season.

Considering Inter ended last season with the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana and reaching the Champions League Final, they start this term arguably as favourites for the Scudetto.

“The team and club are simply aware that they must be ambitious. That is not a matter of arrogance, but of pride to be competing as protagonists,” Marotta told DAZN.

“The model of the club was really renewed three years ago in the shape of Simone Inzaghi and we have more certainty, more confidence, so there are advantages to that and we are gaining experience.”

The coach has already extended his contract after reaching the Champions League Final last season, but the next step is the Scudetto.

“Inzaghi is still a very young coach, so it is natural that he had to adapt to a different reality from Lazio and in doing so earned a great deal of experience in his leadership style. He is a guarantee for us, he is the leader of this team and the results are proving him right.

“Quite apart from the results, the performances are backing him too.”

Davide Frattesi scored twice for Italy midweek against Ukraine, but is again on the bench of Inter in the same stadium.

“We are Inter, so we are in many different tournaments and the management had to build a highly-competitive squad. It’s natural that there are first choice players and co-first choice players. There will be at least 50 games this season, so there is room for everyone.

“Frattesi is young, he just arrived and all the players will get the opportunity to prove themselves.”

As well as the Derby della Madonnina, it is also a race to see who will be first to reach the so-called ‘Second Star’ – as each club receives a permanent ‘star’ on the jersey for 10 Serie A titles.

“The Scudetto is an important objective, both Milan and Inter are in the small group of teams who aim to win the title, so we are up there and are not shying away from that,” concluded Marotta.
