The Nerazzurri have Achraf Hakimi, Ashley Young and Stefan de Vrij back in the starting XI after the 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach.
Inter beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in the Europa League semi-final back in August, but this time the Ukrainians are fresh from a 3-2 victory away to Real Madrid.
“Antonio Conte was a great coach before and he’s great now. His approach hasn’t changed, but Shakhtar changed seven of their starting XI. That was also the Europa League, this is the Champions League,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.
“Fabio Capello said it well when he noted this was one of many finals we are to face.
“The destiny of a squad depends on what it does, but also how the other teams do in their games. We must make the most of our opportunities and pick up points wherever we can.”
Inter announced today that they posted losses of €100m for the 2019-20 financial year, affected badly by the pandemic, so going further in the Champions League could well be crucial off the field as well as on.
“We are in an anomalous situation, not just because of the packed fixture list, but also because every club is feeling the effects of missing revenue.
“UEFA will take this economic contraction into account, so we’ll have less revenue, but the importance of the revenue from UEFA will be increasingly important.”
