The Azzurri’s only pre-Euro 2012 friendly was on Friday night in Zurich and saw them fall to their heaviest loss since Brazil in the 2009 Confederations Cup.

“It was a strange game. We conceded three goals, but had the chances to take the lead repeatedly. Russia did well to take advantage of their scoring opportunities,” said the Juventus” data-scaytid=”3″>Juventus midfielder.

“Now we know what we did well and what we need to improve, so that’s the important thing. We have a few days to prepare for the opening game with Spain on June 10.

“At the start of the second half we came out strongly and if we had taken the lead then it might’ve been a different story.

“We have to stay united, we know that we have to do better and will work on that. With my chance I thought I was offside, to be honest, but I scuffed the shot and I hope I don’t get it wrong when it really counts.”

Marchisio admits the preparations for this tournament have been complex, as on Monday police staged a dawn raid on the Italy training camp to search Domenico Criscito’s room and serve him with a notice of investigation in the betting scandal.

“You need strong antibodies to resist everything that is happening. There has been a lot of pressure over the last few days, but the team has always trained well and we have time to work.

“Why are we optimistic? We all know there has been a lot of chaos in the past week, yet we managed to stay relaxed when together.

“Let’s not try to connect this defeat to the problems back home. We are a strong side and have to prepare for the opener.”
