Joao Pedro and Leonardo Pavoletti nodded in two Lucas Castro crosses for the 2-0 result this afternoon.

“It was a victory for the lads and ending the winless streak on home turf does take a weight off our shoulders,” confessed Maran to Sky Sport Italia.

“We didn’t make the most of our chances in other games, but we did well today. There were a few fitness issues in the second half and we struggled to control the match.

“This team deserved the win and worked very hard. I am not surprised that Castro put in such a great performance, but everyone did well today.”

Cagliari midfielder Nicolò Barella and goalkeeper Alessio Cragno earned call-ups to the Italy squad this week.

“I am happy for them and the club, as the calls are fully deserved.”
