Rolando Maran said Chievo “would not have lost if the refereeing decisions were correct” after a 2-1 defeat to Torino.

The Flying Donkeys had numerous reasons to complain at the Stadio Grande Torino, including two strong penalty appeals, Adem Ljajic only getting booked for a shove and Fabrizio Cacciatore sent off for dissent.

“The first goal changed the game and it should’ve been disallowed too for a Leandro Castan offside position,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“As for the rest, in the second half we had two shocking penalties not given to us. I think we would not have lost if the refereeing decisions were correct.

“We’re not supposed to talk about referees, but things like this can change a game. Am I supposed to say nothing? I have to say we lost because the decisions were inadequate.

“We had an excellent second half performance. It’s a good referee usually, so perhaps his assistants didn’t give him the right help. These are the incidents, we cannot sit here and say the decisions were right.

“I have to take it into account when three situations could’ve transformed the course of the match. It’s an undeserved defeat and I’m disappointed for the lads.

“I don’t want to discuss the referees, but these incidents affected the result and we cannot pretend they didn’t. The performance was good and we are on the right track.”
