The Grifoni started the season with a 4-1 win over Crotone but were battered by an impressive Partenopei in the second round.

Maran was ‘hurt’ by the goals conceded in Naples and hopes to bounce back from the big loss.

“After having played a good first half, we completely died. The second goal cut our legs off.

“It hurts to concede goals in this way, now we must get close to the Genoa who entered the pitch in the first half and show that we are not the team we saw in the second.”

Maran didn’t want to talk about Mario Balotelli’s proposed move to Genoa and focused on ‘analysing the heavy’ defeat to the Partenopei.

“I don’t want to talk about other players [Balotelli], I find it unpleasant,” Maran added. “If he comes, we will talk about it, now it’s not the time.

“This heavy defeat will be analysed; it will not be necessary to let it affect us. Teams like Napoli must be confronted, otherwise you risk getting hurt.”
