Rodrigo De Paul got the winning goal, but Gianluca Scamacca saw his celebrations cut short in stoppages by VAR to disallow the equaliser.

“It does hurt to leave here with zero points, because I think we played better than Udinese,” Maran told Sky Sport Italia.

“A draw might’ve been an acceptable result, but we’re not getting it due to a few centimetres. It’s a performance we must build on, because it allowed us to rediscover some important elements that had gone missing lately.

“The result did not arrive, but we had everything else. The lads are finding their way out of this situation, we saw that today, and we deserved more.

“I feel the support of the club and squad, as we are doing everything to emerge from this situation with a united approach.”

Mattia Perin saw red with practically the last kick of the game for rushing out on Jens Stryger-Larsen.

“We were at the last chance saloon and he tried to rescue the situation. It was a gamble.”
