“We are happy with the qualification and I think it was deserved,” said Catania Coach Maran.

“In extra time you could see the tiredness set in, while before then the teams were on a pretty even keel.

“This is yet another objective we have achieved this season, which of course helps to build self-confidence.”

Parma were meant to be the favourites and played on home turf, but could not get the better of Catania.

“We tried and just lacked that extra sliver of belief,” noted Donadoni.

“During the game I think we played on level terms, then anything can happen in a penalty shoot-out.

“What effect will this have on our Serie A season? The Coppa Italia is closed for us now and we look ahead to Sunday.”
