The 60-year-old required an operation to remove a subdural hematoma – a bleed on the brain – a result of a fall.

“The recovery process continues to be very good,” Dr Leopoldo Luque told reporters.

“The latest CT scan was excellent, we are very happy and he is eager to leave the hospital. Our plan is to keep him in for at least another day, as long as the medics in the clinic also agree he is in a condition to be discharged.

“He can walk, he is talking to me and seems much more lucid. Obviously, it’s early days, but the progress has been excellent. Once he is discharged, we’ll continue to keep him under observation in his home.”
