After reaching an agreement with Palermo to terminate his existing contract, Devis Mangia looks set to take over the Italy Under-21 job.

Mangia has been holding talks with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) over the position, which was vacated earlier this summer by Ciro Ferrara when he decided to move to Sampdoria.

One obstacle to Mangia taking the position was his existing contract with Palermo. Whilst he was sacked by the Rosanero in December, his deal still had until June 2013 to run.

One obstacle to Mangia taking the position was his existing contract with Palermo. Whilst he was sacked by the Rosanero in December, his deal still had until June 2013 to run.

However, as the Gazzetta dello Sport report today, Mangia has managed to reach an agreement to terminate that deal, freeing him to conclude talks with the FIGC.

It is speculated that the 38-year-old will sign a contract this Wednesday to lead the Azzurrini forward.
