Roberto Mancini “wants much more” from Inter after their 1-0 win away to Bologna. “Maybe we do play better with 10 men.”

Mauro Icardi scored the goal at the Stadio Dall’Ara after Felipe Melo had received a second yellow card.

“I want much more, especially in the first half. The second period was totally different. We were too slow and didn’t create any spaces. Maybe we play better with 10 men,” Mancio told Sky Sport Italia.

“A goal always helps a striker, as everyone goes through rough periods. Icardi and Stevan Jovetic need to get to know each other and appreciate each other more, so it just takes time. Geoffrey Kondogbia did much better in the second half, especially after we went down to 10 men."

This seems to be an issue throughout the campaign, as seven out of Inter's 10 games this season have been 0-0 at the break.

“The first half we were far too slow and Bologna sat behind the ball, so there was no space down the flanks and the strikers were too far away. The second half was much better.

“I thought the only problems of the first half were we were too slow passing it and the wide men didn’t move enough. They attacked the space and looked for the ball more as time went on, we also made fewer technical errors.”

Mancini was furious at Melo’s dismissal and was later sent off by referee Luca Banti.

“I told him it was a tactical foul and should’ve received a yellow card. Unfortunately I didn’t convince him, but then that’s normal.

“I don’t think even he knows why he sent me off. Nothing happened. Football is football. You can’t end every game with 10 men.”

Inter are top of the Serie A table for at least 24 hours, as Roma, Lazio, Fiorentina and Napoli play on Wednesday evening.
