Inter captain Andrea Ranocchia says Roberto Mancini has brought ‘serenity and confidence’ and: “teams must be scared of coming to San Siro.”

The central defender has been one of the starting points for the returned Coach’s reconstruction of the Nerazzurri. Interviewed by the Gazzetta dello Sport, he praised the outlook of his new Coach.

“Mancini is a believer to the end – he believes in every good thing you can think about for the future Inter, he believes in all of us and in the Champions League,” the 26-year-old considered.

“You can see that when he talks to us – in group meetings, individually, when he covers tactics and the rest, he conveys serenity and confidence.

“Besides he has a winning history – and this is something that counts, weighs heavily.”

Inter aren't in the best of form, but Ranocchia insists that the team does not have a problem.

“Our team is doing fine. And I'll tell you why – for the mentality that Mancini instilled in us and that we brought to the field.

“Some have said: ‘Why not be content with the 2-2?’ That's where people go wrong.

“If you take it to 2-2, then you want to win. We play for that and that's the end of it. In the last two months we went into the pitch tense, under a lot of pressure. It was a constant war – headlines, bigger headlines, criticisms. We needed greater serenity.

“You can't see great changes in 10 days, but confidence, mentality, serenity and hard work are the basic points from which we are starting again.

“And I'll say it again – teams must once again be scared of coming to San Siro. This is fundamental.”

Asked whether it was easier to reach the Champions League by winning the Europa League or by coming third in Serie A, Ranocchia was clear about his preference.

“You can imagine what our favoured way would be – lifting a trophy would be wonderful. And I think that, compared to the League, this path would be more accessible.

“Of course, though, that requires luck in the future draws, and the team has to be at its best when it comes to the contests on the pitch.”
