Inter Coach Roberto Mancini is cheering on his former side Leicester City in the Premier League title race.

While perhaps more associated with Manchester City after winning the Premier League title while manager at the Etihad, Mancio ended his playing career with the Foxes, making four appearances in 2001.

Claudio Ranieri’s side are five points clear at the top of the table with nine games to go, having narrowly avoided relegation under Nigel Pearson last season.

“It’s really made an impression on me what Ranieri is doing, because I played for Leicester and I know the reality there,” Mancini explained to Calciomercato.

“The team is definitely stronger now than when I was there, but to win there is really difficult.

“I’m particularly pleased that Ranieri is on the bench, because he deserves great satisfaction and if he wins the Premier League with Leicester City he’ll have done something great.

“I’ve been a fan of Leicester since I played there, and even more so now that Ranieri is doing such great things.

“The Premier League is the most beautiful, because you live football without all the stuff surrounding it which happens in Italy after one or two losses or one or two wins, that’s why the stadiums are always full.

“I think it’s the ultimate expression of football, the fans have to experience it and the players the same.

“Having had an experience like I did, winning the League and the FA Cup is something very beautiful.”

Mancini was then asked about City, who have announced Pep Guardiola will take over this summer.

“I don’t know what will happen with City, because they have so many great players and they’ve had a great squad for the last four or five years.

“In fact, I’d say they have the best squad in the Premier League, regardless of whether they win it or not.

“Yaya Toure? He’s a great player, City have a lot. I don’t know what will happen.”
