Tarcisio Burgnich doesn’t think that Roberto Mancini will have any significant impact on Inter’s season without support in the transfer market.

The Nerazzurri legend was the first Coach Mancini had during his playing career, but thinks that his former player won’t be able to turn Inter’s season around if the squad is not improved.

“If they buy some players that can make the difference, then maybe there’s a turning point,” Burgnich told Calcio News 24.

“Juventus for instance struggle abroad because they don’t have players who can make the difference.

“Maybe at the moment, if I were in Mancini’s shoes, I’d look for a defensive playmaker like Andrea Pirlo – they’re missing one like him.”

Burgnich thinks that Mancini’s only chance to revive the Nerazzurri’s season lies in the mentality of his players.

“As far as sackings go, it’s always the players’ fault – if a Coach doesn’t have the players, then he can’t return optimal results.

“They are quality players and they just can’t suffer such debacles. The team was not there and the group means a lot.

“Look at Mourinho – when somebody didn’t perform to his standards, he would send him to the stands and then he’d give 200 per cent the following week.

“In any case, this is a different Inter side to the one Mancini used to have and to the one Jose Mourinho used to manage.

“A squad like Inter’s can’t lose against Cagliari and Parma. I think that the group wasn’t giving the same as the Coach.

“That’s why I think that Mancini must start again from the dressing room, if the group is with him.

“I am happy for his appointment because Mancini was one of my players when I was Bologna head Coach and he was 16/17.

“What’s more he has already yielded good results to Inter in the past.”
