Roberto Mancini calls on his Italy players inspire the nation – “players who come to the national team have to bring out the dreams they have in their hearts”.

The new CT was officially presented at Coverciano today, and he made it clear what he expects from his players.

“We’ll have to get them [the fans] closer,” Mancini said.

“When the national team plays there are so many fans and they’re very close to us. The other things, like dedication and work, are normal. They’re professional players.

“The players who come to the national team have to bring out the dreams they have in their hearts, that’s the important thing.

“When you’re young and watching games on TV, this is what you dream of.”

Mancini was then asked about the style of football he’d be looking for.

“I’ll think of those who play well – and it doesn’t always happen, because there are times when you can’t – and win because they're better.

“We’ll try and have the most technical players possible to play the best football we can.

“Domenico Criscito? There’ll be room for everyone who does well, then we also have to grow so we’ll focus on youngsters.

“Criscito is still 100 per cent, I’ve finished my adventure in Russia and I’m very happy to be here.”
