Roberto Mancini looks forward to Wednesday’s friendly between Manchester City and a Genoa-Sampdoria side. “We can do something wonderful for the city.”

The match at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, commonly referred to as Marassi, will take place on Wednesday February 8 as a fund-raiser for the victims of the Genoa floods in November.

Manchester City will play against a united team of Genoa and Sampdoria players, coached by Gianluca Vialli, Sven Goran Eriksson, Stefano Eranio and Osvaldo Bagnoli.

“There are many of us here at City who are tied to Sampdoria, so it was no question we’d accept this invite,” Mancini told the official Samp website.

“We can do something wonderful for the city of Genoa, where I lived for 15 years and therefore feel a little bit as my own home.

“Sheikh Mansour and the club immediately gave the all-clear for this event. It wasn’t easy to find a date, as we have a particularly packed schedule, but we managed it and are happy to give a helping hand.”

Mancini won the Scudetto for Sampdoria in 1991, while assistants Fausto Salsano and David Platt also played for the Blucerchiati.
